I have a strange use for this product. This unit is well built. I supposed most folks would use this for charing their phones and stuff, but I use it to charge a small 12V battery that runs my ham radio equipment while on the highlands of Scotland. I decided to buy this product instead of taking a solar panel because I can produce power at any time! Day or night!! Instant power when you need it... I put a blocking diode on my battery... Overall there is so many uses for this product I just had a strange use for mine!! lol

I have had mine for several years. The changes in how hard it is to turn the crank are because of the charging circuitry or load in what you connect it to. With just a bulb attached, it will flicker as you turn. That too is normal for the design. It works perfectly for recharging a small battery. If my battery gets low after dark, I can top it off with this, and it cost far less than a solar panel able to produce the same Wattage. A one Watt LED and a small Transistor radio use far less power than this can put out. You should only have to crank for several minutes per hour of use. When I ordered mine, a 5 volt version was also available. I wish they were still offered. I am very happy I have this for when the power is out and my battries need to be topped off.

One of my initial concerns about ordering something like this online is that I couldn't get a feel of the product in my hand to at least judge whether it looked / felt like a light weight cheaply made weak product or the opposite. Since I'm just using it as part of a general emergency kit, I haven't used it much yet. However, upon getting / opening the package, it at least looked / felt like a durable product with some healthy weight to it in comparison to others I've experienced through Tote's or other cheap brands.

Pros: Works as advertised. Even got a failing AAA Ni-MH battery up and running again on my bicycle's headlight. Would give it a 5 if it wasn't for the con below. Easy to get the green light, indicating an optimal cranking speed, when it works correctly.

Cons: Sometimes it's hard to crank. It feels as if something is getting caught in the works but then works its way out on its own, only to get worked in again, requiring a lot of effort to keep cranking until it works it way out again. Feels like either something is misaligned, a part isn't lubricated as much as it should be, or some object that isn't supposed to be in there is in there. It's less likely to happen if I keep cranking in the same direction, but it still happens.
