Don't Be Left In The Dark Again!
Make sure you're prepared in times of no power, no light, no communication

LONDON, Following recent blackouts, an unpredictable winter lies ahead as the UK faces further potential power cuts. Freeplay Energy Group is suggesting that commuters have their own back-up plan, rather than rely on the National Grid:

'Failure of equipment, as is believed to be the cause of yesterday's power cut, does happen,' explains Rory Stear, chief executive. 'Whilst London Underground may not have a back up for its systems, all commuters can keep a wind-up torch in their bag or briefcase to ensure that they have light if plunged into darkness. This gives back an element of control and reassurance, as they can see where they are and are able to move if necessary.'

Self-sufficient - or wind-up - products such as a torch do not rely upon conventional batteries and therefore will always work - whenever or wherever you need them. By simply winding the handle for around 30-45 seconds, users can generate approximately 8 minutes of torchlight and needn't worry about battery failure as another wind simply produces more light. Self-sufficient radios are also essential in times of emergency - once very basic requirements are met, information is the next most sought after need.

Stear concludes: 'Self-sufficient energy products won't solve your emergency but will always provide reassurance, and the light or communication that is desperately needed. The technology behind these products has huge potential - it can be applied to many consumer durables and areas of industry and we're currently looking at numerous options. With the UK and USA facing unpredictable energy levels, self-sufficient technology may well provide some solutions for the future.'
