Press Release - Quixote Group:

Freeplay™ is for Technology Lovers
GREENSBORO , N.C. - Since its establishment in 1994, Freeplayô has been on the cutting edge of self-sufficient technology. The companyís scientific advances make its flashlight and radio products last longer, shine brighter and work more efficiently. Recent comparative research shows that in several key self-sufficient technology categories, Freeplay out-performs the competition.

Light Up: In a measure of light intensity (Lux Output), Freeplay products out-perform the competition, with the Freeplay Jonta operating 20 times better than the highest rated competitor. That means consumers get much more intense and bright light with Freeplay flashlights.

Shine On: In a measure of operating time per minutes of wind-up time, the Freeplay Jonta and Sherpa Xray flashlights shine significantly longer than the competition, which means consumers will spend less time and energy winding up their flashlights to get a longer shine time.

Recharge the Batteries: Capacity and memory loss are often common problems associated with most rechargeable battery systems. Under wind-up conditions, the Freeplay system's rechargeable batteries receive a conditioning charge that negates the memory effect common to rechargeable batteries and actually increases their useful life. Accelerated lifetime tests on the batteries used in the Freeplay system have reflected no significant capacity loss after 10,000 crank charge cycles.

How It All Works: Freeplay's self-sufficient technology is designed to be the world's best human energy conversion system. The wind-up system is built around a custom designed, highly efficient alternator. The architecture of this patented system has been developed to maximize the ability of the user to convert human energy into stored electricity quickly and efficiently. The handle can be cranked in both directions and the harder it is cranked, the more energy is created. A crank level LED indicates the optimum winding speed but the only limitation to how much energy is created and stored depends on the user.
