Freeplay Energy Group has donated 40 radios to aid Metropolitan Police officers investigating the case of 'Adam', a young child murdered in the London area. The self-sufficient radios will be distributed throughout a targeted region of Nigeria in the hope that special broadcasts planned to raise awareness of the murder, will generate new leads.
The torso of a young child was found floating in the Thames in September 2001 and a subsequent post-mortem indicated that the child was involved in a ritual homicide, as practised in Africa. Now, the latest advances in forensics have enabled investigators to pinpoint an area measuring 100 miles by 50 miles where they believe Adam originated from, and a team of officers from New Scotland Yard have flown out to West Africa to continue their investigations.
Detective Inspector Will O'Reilly, senior investigating officer on the case, believes that the radios are an essential tool:
"Communication is key but the team is unable to personally visit all the villages and people, so broadcast seemed the next best solution. As the regions that we need to talk to do not have access to electricity, the Freeplay Ranger with its rechargeable battery, solar panel or wind-up facility is a brilliant solution, and will ensure that the population can tune in at any time of the day or night.
"With the help of the UK media and our self-sufficient radios, we hope to spread the sad news about Adam and get some new leads."
