Freeplay's 5th generation radio reaches the Summit
Today, the Freeplay Energy Group unveils its fifth generation radio, the Summit. This is the first multi-band radio with digital tuning and combines the highest quality in radio and self-sufficient technology. The Summit provides reliable access to music and global information wherever and whenever users need it. Its style, design and technology breaks new ground for the self-sufficient portable electronic market, offering users a choice of 3 power options, 4 wave bands (FM/MW/SW/LW), digital tuning and 30 preset stations, as well as a radio clock alarm. Other features include LCD digital display panel with back light to view selected radio station, band, clock and charge level, a DC input facility to accommodate the AC/DC world-wide travel adapter/ charger and an earphone socket for personal listening. The Summit comes equipped with a world travel adapter, protective pouch, short wave aerial and short wave channel guide.

"The launch of the Summit takes self-sufficient products into a new era," explained Rory Stear, chairman and CEO Freeplay. "We have moved from the clock work mechanism used in the first radio, to a compact direct charge system, that can be used in a wider variety of applications as it enables us to make smaller and lighter products and delivers increased playtime, high quality performance and superb sound. Our continual innovation and commitment to self-sufficient technology delivers stylish products that provide failsafe power at all times. The increased functions and features of the Summit radio will appeal to a broad audience, and challenge consumers' perceptions of a wind-up radio. I know that this product will encourage consumer pull-through and drive the self-sufficient market for portable electronic products," commented Stear.

Wind-up, Solar or Re-chargeable power
The option of three power sources ensures the Summit has energy to operate at anytime, anywhere in the world. A unique wind-up option, provides a power supply at any time; solar power is channelled by a high performance amorphous thin film solar panel (4.2 Volts, 34 milliamp); and an internal , rechargeable battery (Ni-MH, 3.6 Volts, 1300 milliamp hours) can be charged via the mains. Winding for 30 seconds provides 30 minutes of play, alternatively, a massive 20 hours of playtime is available via the internal battery.

Jet setters, out doors and environmentally aware

Compact and lightweight, the Summit is ideal for the bedroom, bathroom or lounge, while its failsafe energy source makes it perfect for remote locations, weekends away or business travel. Freeplay has isolated jet setters, outdoor enthusiasts and the environmentally aware as the key markets. Available in champagne silver the FreeCharge Summit Radio has a RRP of £84.99. Accessories include a travel pouch, SW guide and a world-wide mains adapter/ charger.
