Replacing the batteries

Older assist radios use a 2/3 AAA 350 mAh 3.6 V NiMh battery.
Newer assist radios use a 600 mAh Li-ion battery.
Before ordering or purchasing a battery open the radio, by unscrewing the 4 casing screws on the back of the radio. Gently prise open the two halves and the contents of the radio will be visible.
Unplug the battery and remove it.
Replacement batteries are available on the Internet. Use Google and then search for a suitable supplier. Don’t worry about capacity just buy on price.
The plug that comes with the replacement battery may not be compatible with the existing one, in which case you will need to cut the wires off the old one and connected to the new battery before inserting it and reassembling. The battery is held in place with some double-sided tape or a soft rubber strip. If you can’t reuse these strips then you will need to either use more double-sided tape or another adhesive spacer.

The batteries are in a compartment at the lower rear of the radio. There is a cover with two screws sealing the battery compartment. Unscrew the retaining screws and remove the battery by unplugging it from its socket.
The battery pack is formatted in a triangular or pyramid shrink-wrapped package. The battery cells are 3 x AA NiMh 3.6V 1800 to 2800mAh.
The capacity only affects the playtime when it is fully charged. Replacement batteries are available on the Internet. Use Google and then search for a suitable supplier. Don’t worry about capacity just buy on price.

Tuf radios use 3 cells 2/3 AAA 350 mAh 3.6 V NiMh battery.
Before ordering or purchasing a battery open the radio, by unscrewing the 4 casing screws on the back of the radio. These are underneath the four rubber caps visible on the four corners of the radio. Gently prise open the two halves and the contents of the radio will be visible.
The battery is underneath a black housing that needs to be screwed off. Unplug the battery and remove it.
Replacement batteries are available on the Internet. Use Google initially and then search for a suitable supplier. Don’t worry about capacity just buy on price.

Reassemble the radio in the reverse way of opening it up. If the two halves don’t fit together flush immediately, don’t squeeze it, open the radio again check for any wires that might be getting in the way, or other components non-aligned before closing the radio.
TUF will not charge my phone
Is the USB cable connected properly?
Confirm TUF is powered on and in the phone charging mode by looking for word CELL in the bottom right corner of the LCD display.
Keep turning the winding handle at a constant pace until your mobile phone indicates it is being charged.
When charging my phone the winding handle turns easily all the time and my phone will not charge
Your USB cable is not connected properly on one or both ends. Check for a proper connection.
The battery in your phone is already fully charged.
When I wind the handle during phone charging the amount of force required changes from easy to hard and back again
This is normal. Keep winding. The amount of force required should soon be constant after several seconds of winding.
